Employers in receipt of CJRS grants who believe they are at serious risk of violence or intimidation if their claim details are made known, only have until 25th January to ask HMRC not to publish the information.
Under the rules of the third CJRS, the government advised that a list of those employers making claims in periods from December 2020 would be published on the gov.uk website on 26th January 2021 with monthly updates thereafter. Government guidance advises that this is ‘part of HMRC’s commitment to transparency and to deter fraudulent claims.’
Because of concerns that some employers may be under serious threat of violence or intimidation because of having their claim details published, there is the option to ask HMRC not to publish claim details. This request must be made by the employer and not through their agent.
From February, the following information will be published each month:
- the employer name
- an indication of the value of the CJRS claim within a banded range
- the company number for companies and Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs)
Paul Newbold, Partner at Torgersens said; ‘We strongly recommend that any employers who think they are at risk should apply not to have their information published, noting the tight deadline as the last date to do this is Monday 25th January. Please be aware that despite the monthly updates, this you only have to apply once – this covers all claim periods starting on or after 1 December.’
