This month we’re speaking to Chantal Newbold from our Sunderland office. Chantal has a candle business and holds candle-making workshops in partnership with Girls Get Together NE.

Tell us about Girls Get Together NE

Girls Get Together NE is a social event where women of all ages can come along solo or with their friends to enjoy a few hours of creativity or wellness. It’s ultimately about creating a safe space for women to get together, meet, socialise and have fun. There’s a huge ‘women supporting women’ element, establishing shared experiences to help women forge ongoing connections with one another.

I first became involved with Girls Get Together when the organiser bought one of my candles online and asked if I’d be interested in running a workshop with them. We’ve had a close relationship ever since!

And your workshops?

The candle-making workshops are generally two hours in length, where women discover how to make a candle at their own pace whilst having a good natter over snacks and a glass of fizz. One of the best parts of the workshops is being able to choose your own scent and label, so you come away with a truly unique candle, made by you.

Where are the workshops held?

Location-wise, we currently have candle-making workshops in Newcastle and Guisborough. Our Newcastle events are based at the Pitcher & Piano and Revolution pubs, and our Guisborough sessions are held at Sunday Coffee & Kitchen. We’ll be running special Autumn/Fall candle-making events in September and a Christmas event in November.

What are your aims for 2026 and beyond?

Over the next year we’ll be aiming to hold workshops in other locations like Darlington, Durham and Northumberland. We’ve also had keen interest in hosting private sessions for special events like hen parties which is something we’ll be looking at in 2027.
